Parenting Coordinator
Parenting Coordination is a form of alternative dispute resolution for families in high-conflict custody situations. Parenting Coordinators are court-appointed and work within the framework established by the custody order, with authority to make binding decisions on certain parenting disputes which helps to keep conflicts out of the courtroom and reduce the toll that ongoing litigation takes on children and parents.
As a PC, I work with both parents to address disagreements as they arise, with an emphasis on resolving the immediate issue and identifying patterns that can prevent similar conflicts down the road. Appointments can typically be scheduled quickly because custody conflicts rarely wait for a convenient opening.
I am on the court-approved PC list in Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, and Alamance counties and accept appointments statewide.
Guardian ad Litem
In contested custody matters, a Guardian ad Litem is appointed by the court to represent the best interests of the child. As a GAL, I conduct a thorough investigation that typically includes interviews with the child, both parents, and relevant collateral contacts. My findings and recommendations are presented to the court in a written report.
GAL appointments require someone who can hold complexity as these cases often include allegations against one or both parents, parental mental health concerns, resist-refuse dynamics, or significant conflict between parents. I bring clinical training and direct family court experience to every case and work efficiently to minimize delays for families already under significant strain.
I accept GAL appointments primarily in the Triangle area and statewide as scheduling allows.
